Dear Mr. Harper

Letters to the Canadian Prime Minister

Benefits

21 June 2006, 22:44 EST

Dear Mr. Harper:

I'm in the process of switching jobs. One of the things that I've become aware of in my search for a new career is the benefits package.

I was wondering what sort of a benefits package Federal MPs enjoy.

Is there a website where this is listed?

Kind Regards.

Response:

On behalf of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, I would like to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail enquiry.

The Prime Minister receives an annual salary of $144,300, to which all Members of Parliament are entitled, as well as an additional $144,300 for being the Prime Minister. This makes his total annual salary $288,600.

You can learn more about indemnities, salaries and allowances for Members of the House of Commons, 1867 to date, on the Parliamentary Web site, at http://www.parl.gc.ca.

I hope that this information will be of some assistance to you.
