Dear Mr. Harper

Letters to the Canadian Prime Minister

Media Woes

27 May 2006, 15:42 EST

Dear Mr. Harper,

I read an interesting article in the National Post that I would like you to comment on.

The fact that this article was printed in the Post - which you must admit is the more Conservative of Canada's two National papers - surprised me. What surprised me more was the subject matter. Your approach to dealing with the press is now very similar to that of the President of the United States, George Bush. Instead of operating within a free media, you've apparently decided to dictate when, and what questions may be asked of you.

I can't think of a more absurd request by a publicly elected official than to deny the media the chance to freely ask questions.

I think you've just made Rick Mercer's week.

Kind Regards.
